Removing Carbon from exhaust elbow: an idea

It occurred to me that gun cleaner might work for removing carbon deposits, and while researching this I came across a site suggesting Piston Kleen for this use: http://www.frfrogspad.com/cleaners.htm

For decoking iron cylinder heads, caustic soda was the way to go. It will destroy aluminium though.

A lot of the vw/audi crowd have been using mr muscle over cleaner to clean up their partially seized vnt/vgt turbo vanes, not heard anything bad yet.

I remember a guy cleaning a piston with some goop. Forgot it over night and it no longer looked like a piston. His face was a picture, as it was an aircraft piston and not cheap.
