Removing \"blooming\" under lacquer on galley table - HELP!!!

I have a Beneteau Oceanis & my wonderful son put a hot pan on the table. This left a nasty white "bloom" under the laquer. Any suggestions on how to remove this without removing the laquer?

I have just removed a white stain on our dining room table, caused I think by water. I used a fairly hot iron on a double layer of teatowel, a gentle rubbing round and round, for several minutes, keeping the iron warmed worked. no warranty on this though !

before heat I would try some cutting compound or even toothpaste to see if it will polish out.

suggest you take it to a french polisher it shouldnt cost too much, Having worked on a few piano,s in my time, I wouldnt try abrasives as I think you will find the mark has gone to the surface of the wood. I have seen a polisher put methylated spirits on the mark, set fire to it and the mark has completely gone.Dare not try it myself.so might be worth trying the previous suggestion if you cannot find a french polisher.

How about removing the table top, making a (smaller) bloom on the reverse side and experimenting with various possible treatments?

I have also seen a french polisher do the meths trick on my parents' dining table and am still amazed by how incredibly well it worked! I'm also far too scared to try it myself but honestly, taking it to someone who is skilled in the art of doing this trick will be a complete revelation!

I think you will find it only works with shelac which is used by French polishers to give the varnish like finish. Heating it melts the shelac and boils off the water mark. I doubt it would work on varnish.
