Removed the 5 Allen bolts. They were small so no real surprise the wheel did not fall off in my hands

There is no bolt under the logo

I guess I pry off the metal plate held down by he Allen bolts but just though I would ask before damaging it forever !

I seem to remember reading an old thread about this on a Phantom...in it jfm had both changed on a Sq58 ...not sure if he did the change or somebody else.

Either way, I'm sure he's your man for advice on all things Squadron.

Hard to answer without a pic of your specific wheel, but mine has five csk hex head bolts that fix the wheel to the boss; there's a centre plastic push-in bush that has the Fairline logo on it; you have to pry this out and this reveals a big nut which is what fixes the boss to the shaft.

I have all except the big nut ! I suspect that the hex bolts hold the cover in place but I did t want to wreck it !

so that implies the hex nuts are cosmetic only?

What are you changing too Jrudge? as i want to change my F/B helm wheel but as yet not found what I want.

The last owner painted it - I assume due to the wood not taking the weather well. Seems hand painted.

My options are replace ( I need to remove to get the correct boss size ) or sand down and reprint properly which will probably look fine. I considered wrap but I don't think it would work due to the radius of the curves.

Mine is a frost issue, although it has a sunbrella cover the cold has damaged the high gloss varnish which i was never keen on as grip poor when wet.

I thought of a yacht helm leather cover but spokes too wide or cord wrap.

yep you have to get to the big nut. Wheel is attached onto a standard marine keyed and tapered shaft. The other screws are decoration. The taper needs a clout with a hammer to release it. New Fairline wheels are about £300. Isotta.

I don't know the Fairline wheel, but normally the 5 small allen bolts hold the wheel to the hub, so if you've removed them then the wheel should come off. It may just be a bit corroded, so may need tapping or prising. If you only want to change the wheel then there's usually no need to remove the hub from the shaft (the big nut), which can sometimes be a tough job.

Yep, iirc I had to use a puller to get mine off.

+1 I recall removing a 35yo f/b wheel was great fun, unless you plan to replace the whole wheel, don't bother!

There were 3 shirt bolts and 2 longer - say 15mm

So I would guess that the short ones were for stability and the longer ones doing the work,

It does need to come off so i now just need to figure to a way. Don't have a puller, but if that is the method I will invent something!

trying to remove it without a proper puller and "devising" some method is the proper way to justify a new steering wheel
Assuming that atm you don't have a swimbo, you might as well get a new wheel straight away without the hassle

I had to borrow a puller from my car mechanic, no fking way I was removing the f/b wheel without it!
