I've masses of water coming in from the flybridge in heavy seas or rain, and it's coming through the saloon ceiling. All I want to do is remove a panel or two, so I can see where it's coming from, but they all seem stuck fast?

The panels on my P57 are held in with fir tree connectors, which are quite stiff to remove. I use a knife and fork type knife and prize the edge of the panel down slowly, until the connector releases. There is a risk that the connector will break out of the plywood panel and then needs epoxying back in, which is a hassle.

If the panels are covered in alcantara, then wash hands thoroughly first, cos they mark so easily.

This is all assuming the panels on the 50 are the same as the 57.

If it is fir tree connectors, then always prize the panel away right next to the connector, to reduce the chances of the connector pulling out of the panel.

I regularly have to remove panels in Princess boats and found something that works perfectly and is in the drawer of every Princess here in Norway, a cheese slicer. You can get them in decent kitchen shops or Ikea, its a thin flexible triangular blade used to 'plane' cheese. Its perfect for sliding between alcantera or vinyl covered panels as its broad blade won't leave an impression in the material and its stiff enough to flip out a fir tree connector, you then need a long thin bar, a tyre iron is perfect to slide behind the panel to pop out the remaining conectors without bending the ply panel, as if you just pull it down there is a risk it will bend and crack.
If its a later model then a lot of the panels are held with velcro now.
The technical people at the Princess factory were very interested when I told them as they had been trying to engineer a tool just for that job.
