I installed carpet a few weeks ago and it's a big improvement. However I do need to add some kind of fixing system to stop it moving, but one which allows easy removal, without tools, so I can reach my bilges/log impeller easily.

Hawke House, who supplied the carpet, don't offer anything. Apparently, they used to do a popper system where the male part screwed into the floor, and the female popper part was attached to the carpet...shame, as it would have been ideal.

Any ideas? Needs to be...

Rustproof
Allow carpet removal without tools
Not too intrusive (OK to walk on with bare feet)
Fairly easy to install

Thanks!

The manky soon-to-be-disposed-of carpet in my aft cabin was secured with velcro tape: one half stuck to the boards, one half to the carpet. Fulfils your criteria but looks a bit rubbish when the carpet is not in place

Stainless steel poppers are still readily available , contact kayospruce , think they are southampton based , mine are fixed down in the same manner works well , little bit of a wipe with vaseline from time to time is all i do .

Cheers ribrage, kayospruce have all the bits I need.

LTD fasteners a bit pointy as has been mentioned, and I don't think Velcro will work, as I doubt the Velcro will stick to the underside of the carpet very well.

Thanks again!

Doubtless the fastener solution is better and neater (and I'll look at it myself when I get new carpet) but the velcro tape works fine with hessian backed carpet: Just in case there's any misinterpretation, the velcro is 2 strips: one has "hooks" on one side and sticky adhesive on the other, one is "eyes" on one side and adhesive on the other. You stick strips of one sort round the outside of the bottom of the carpet, and strips of the other sort on the floor in a position where the matching bit on the bottom of the carpet will meet it when the carpet is down. ie, it's not the velcro which is attached to the carpet, it's the sticky side of the tape. The velcro then sticks to the matching strip which is stuck (via the tape's adhesive) to the boards.

I found the oak and leather suite was a little light and there was still a little movement , which is ok but then the standard lamp would lean over and caused problems reading the pilot books when on auto pilot :-)

I have carpets to stop the ginger destroyer (boxer dog) from wrecking the varnish on the cabin soles, watching him accelerate from 0-60 whilst going absolutely no where , everytime a gull lands on deck was just too stressful !

I knew what was meant by the Velcro...but the carpet is specific, jet- washable marine carpet...but the back is actually a bit "dusty" for Velcro to stick to it properly, plus there would be lumps under the carpet too...I'd rather have poppers.

I wish the carpet was hiding a nice varnished floor...it's 40 year old bare gelcoated interior moulding that's past it's best and looks a lot better for the carpet!

Now you have explained the situation i can help
Do not bother with the carpet stuck down
Buy a pot of CA glue & glue the dogs feet to the floor
Problem solved

I was going to dremmel his nails , but it seemed a bit radical and some tree hugging do gooder is bound to rat me out to the rspca, maybe as a compromise and a bit cheaper to glue small patches of carpet to his feet ?

" I don't think Velcro will work, as I doubt the Velcro will stick to the underside of the carpet very well ".

You could always put a stitch around the edge of the stuck velcro tape to keep it in place, and aid the adhesive?

I have proper carpet fasteners if you need them. Snap fasteners are okay, but the carpet fastener is virtually hidden when fitted. It is a type of snap fastener and are pressed against the snap fastener stud.

I don't have a dog, but my cabin sole is oiled , so I put down an industrial carpet runner to stop the dirt whilst ashore. I meant to lift it while at sea, but it has a non-slip backing and so far I haven't dared to go out in condtions that have made it slip. Sadly I am now working for B+M (don't ask) and they have a type of non-slip matting with a larger than average mesh intended to make rugs non-slip. No screw holes, no stubbed toes...
