I found a anchor watch app called Anchor! that you can download to an iPad and iPhone and sync the two devices. That means you can set the anchor on the iPad and leave it on the boat and take your iPhone ashore. The IPhone will replicate the iPads display and alarms.

Basically you can sit in the pub and see your boats swing on your iPhone which will alarm if the boat drags. Used it on Saturday night and it worked perfectly. We dragged a bit in the night and the iPad and IPhone alarmed within seconds of each other.

I like the display and ease of use as well. I can not remember if it was free or a couple of quid and not sure if there is an android version.

I have no connection with the developer just an impressed user.

Sounds quite clever assuming you have 3G coverage. Won't work without it though.

I know parts of Scotland are still in the Dark Ages, but cruising on the south coast, Channel Islands, and northern France, the only place I've been without data coverage in recent years is the middle of the Channel itself :)

Been using this app for a few years now. Don’t use the remote monitoring facility as the phone provides the hotspot for the iPad, so no way to link when the phones not there.... Apart from that, it’s proved very reliable and has dug me out of bed on occasion when things have changed. Biggest problem is remembering to turn it off when we leave the anchorage.

Likewise! Many a day's sail has started with its wailing sound for the first minute or two after weighing anchor, before I can get down below to turn it off on the iPad. But the irritation is sweetened by a sense of comfort that it had guarded me while I slept.
