Remote controlling Diesel Eberspacher or Webasto

I am in the process of trying to connect a different thermostat to an Espar and I found this thread. Thanks for providing the video it is some of the only information I can find online of anyone successfully doing this.

I have a couple questions if you don't mind:

  • Are you still running this setup, how is is working for you?
  • When the Espar turns off, it will run the glow plug again to burn off any crud. Are you able to see if this is still happening with your setup?
I guess my concern is if there is some special logic / black magic in the circuitry for the stock thermostat, that is not be run when being bypassed in this way. That could perhaps over time cause issues.

Would love to hear your thoughts on this!

I got hold of a cheap used nest thermostat of ebay and managed to wire it up on 12v to make it work. here is the video if anyone's interested on adding it to your own boat ?

I did install the nest on my d4+ after watching the video.
I sent a few questions YouTube too and I'm hoping you are still around.
I've wired as described. But need to know where you connect the two red wired from the nest.
I've connected the yellow.
When turning on the thermostat to heat it just turns the fan on at full speed without going through any initialisation. Your connection to the yellow wire is also red. Is that from the two joined wires? If so where does the yellow wire from the nest go?
Could anyone Please advise.

so not working for me atm

Hi Nick it's been a while since I played with it so need to remind myself the wiring.

I assume the heater works standalone with the existing thermostat?

Yes indeed it works with the easystart 7day timer.

The way i set it up is with the nest.

12v from battery which powers the eberspacher and easystart 7 day controller. to relay and power input twisted/joined. (Your red ones). On the unit.
Brown to 12v negative on the unit.

I used a yellow cable from the unit and spliced onto the yellow (call for heat) wire of the heater harness.

nest sees unit via WiFi and and also remotely.

when I turn heating up on the nest the eberspacher fires up the fan but does not go through initialization.

I have also tried it with the easystart fully disconnected from the system.
