Not sure who you’re answering, it if it was me...:

Independently of the 801 sort of....

The thermostat on the 801 will still work when the heater is switched on by the GSM switch. The GSM is effectively pretending to be the on / off bit of the 801, it doesn’t affect the thermostat settings on the 801.

So the heater can be controlled by either device, although if you switch on the heater with the GSM you can’t switch it off with the 801, and vice verse (ie only one unit can be in control at a time)

Wiring wise, sounds correct - the yellow wire is the on / off signal wire, Connect to 12v for on.
 
Thank you. Does the yellow (switch) wire come from the heater loom to the GSM or the yellow wire from the 801 controller? JS

I have the GPS version so I can also poll my boat for its position - not massively useful in a marina setting, it good to keep an eye on where the boat is if we step off at an anchorage.

Nothing better than returning to the boat on a cold winters night, moored away from base to have the deck lights on welcoming me onto a warm boat, with the gennie running and heating the water and charging the batteries. Worth every penny in my book!

I have also just partially installed another G022 in a friends boat - eberspacher connected and working, other wiring runs still to be completed for the other features.

I've only just spotted this thread and am interested in the remote operation of various systems on board and like yourself want to be able to switch deck and interior lights remotely and a GSM switch of some sort is the obvious answer. I've just looked at the Quark-Elec unit which look just right.

I'm interested in your 'auto start' generator and how you start it? I have a 12kv Northern Lights unit which requires me to press an overide button whilst pressing the start button and I'm not sure how I could do this remotely?

Wouldn't you just wire a 2 pole relay so that the two circuits are separately closed, and then just control that relay from whatever remote device you've selected?

Yes, but having re read my post I see I left out an important piece of the puzzle, which is the 'overide' switch is also the pre heat and this needs to be activated for 10 secs say, before going for the start button.

I think your solution would still work but I'd need to incorporate a timer and have two separate relays.

Got one of these controlling the gennie.

It can involve some complex rewiring, but a good spark should be able to figure it out.

Comes with loads of configurable timers and switched outputs - mine is set to inhibit water heater and battery charger when the boat is running on the inverter. The water heater and batt charger come on automatically when the generator is on line and supplying power.

Thanks for that. I'll have a good look at it but at first glance it looks like just the thing.

Am I right in saying you use a seperate GSM switch to control the DSE3110?

What you've suggested isn't really the type of kit I'm looking for.

I'm looking to set up a system on board that will allow me to control various items, such as the generator, internal lighting, external lighting, heating and hot water etc. from a remote location via SMS.

So, for example, if we're anchored up somewhere and ashore in the dinghy then I can make sure the lights are on and have hot water ready etc for when we get back on board.

Or going to the boat in the marina during the winter, I can turn everything on before I leave home.

Yup. GSM switch does all the remote switching. The DSE controller just controls the gennie, using one of the auto start inputs (I seem to remember it has two..) triggered by the GSM.

The yellow wire runs between the heater and 801. Tap into it, and switch to 12v to activate the heater. Simples :)

In fact some Eberspachers have a spare plug close to the heater, with red, yellow and brown wires going to it. Link the red and yellow with the GSM switch (Lucas connectors fit the plug) and away you go. No cutting / splicing required.
 
It's £220 but wouldn't this do it. Seems to be plug and play.

I stumbled on this forum looking for Webasto and Hive. Nothing can be found However, the manufacturer themselves seem to feel some people have succeeded with Hive. Can't find any details on it.
