I'm working on a system that will monitor most systems on the boat, plus wil have remote access including the ability to turn on bilge pumps, plus cameras, all over the internet. But it will not be a cheap system, and may be too complex for anyone not familiar with the industrial controller system I am using.

Hi. I've used a system called SuperSail on two boats now, and although not cheap, it's always worked faultlessly. My current boat's in SoF, and it basically just gives me peace of mind that the boat's safe, the bilges are empty, the shore power is connected and so on. It also has some clever little features like spare buttons on the remote control which control the stern docking lights so that you can illuminate the boat when returning to it on a dark night. I used Aquamare to fit both and they're a great company to work with (for the avoidance of doubt I'm not connected to them in any way).

In addition I've installed a couple of Amazon Blink wifi cameras on the current boat. These run off AA batteries which apparently last >6 months and have adjustable movement sensors built in - so like having an alarm system in itself - the app alerts you when there's movement on the boat and you can review the video of the event. Also really nice to be in the UK and occasionally having a look at what the boat & scenery look like in SoF. These were only around £80 each.

Check out this article.....its gives you a few options

Monitoring apps: How the Internet of Things can turn your boat into a smart boat

The GoFree Vessel system from Navico’s GoFree division, for instance, monitors a wide range of parameters, including information such as engine hours, battery status, oil pressure, coolant temperature and fuel consumption, and more. Other companies already operating in this field include London-based Yacht Sentinel, Croatia based Sentinel Marine, plus Oceanic Systems, Nautic Alert, Blue Guard Innovations and Malta-based IoT Solutions. Most offer packages aimed at both private owners and fleet operators.

Does do the trick?
SMART 1+
A guy in our marina is developing it.
He has quite a few installed over the last few years.
I can put you in contact with him.
hi Hurricane, thanks for that have looked at the web site that system would suit my needs. According to web site £550 all in compared to yacht sentinal which for the gold package runs to about £1400 plus a yearly subscription on top. would be gratefull if you could put me in contact thanks john.

I have been assisting Simrad for a couple of years now with Boat Connect

very pleased with it. Alarms went off when marina moved it for boat show and had bilge alarm and low voltage alarms too since it was installed

easy to check every morning Good to see temp in laz vs air

I've gone down the cheapskate route!
For many years I have had a remote switch for the eberspacher triggered by a txt from my phone, this is being expanded to a unit that has 4 inputs as well as a relay control. I am using the 2g version as 3g will be switched off before 2g.
GSM Alarm / Auto / Speech Dialler - 2G & 3G UK manufactured | eBay
Using the relay in the victron combi it will now tell me if shore power is disconnected and reconnected ( 2 inputs)
Using the relay in Smartgauge it will tell me if either SOC drops below 75% or the voltage goes below a set level. (one input)
The final input can be wired to sense when the bilge pump switches on which in my case should be never if its on I panic.
The victron relay could be substituted with a relay on the 230v input.
The Smartgauge relay would need some thought but I believe other battery monitor systems have alarms which could be used.
It also switches the Eberspacher on so I can arrive to a warm boat.
Easy, cheap and very simple.

I use a Teracom TCG120, simple to instal, flexible in setup. I have 2 temperature sensors, one in engine bay one in saloon measuring temperature and humidity. Also monitor bilge water level, mains power and battery voltage. Text the unit to get a status on all inputs. I also configure alarms so that if any input exceeds a limit I get a text informing me what is wrong. Really pleased with it.
Also I have 2 Ring stick up cameras, stand alone cameras, connect to boats wifi, battery operated, charge up the battery, lasts 3 months on one charge. I checked them this morning, still on 93% charge from before Christmas. They also will text me if any movement is detected.

@Bran, I had a look at Teracom website. Can this system only be monitored from a windows based system, not over android smart phone?

Initial setup requires a windows based system with usb, I have a laptop so connect that occasionally via usb to check the configuration or to tweak any alarm variables. Monitoring the system is via text so any operating system is ok. There is a facility to constantly send data to a server so you can log data, however I don’t use this, I just send a text via iPhone to check the status of all inputs. Any alarms will be sent via text to upto 5 mobile numbers.

I have a Blink XT2 system linked to my smart phone. I can view all areas on the boat at any time or from any where. Its cheap easy to install with battery powered cameras (lasting around two years) no wires, water proof. alarmed if any thing moves inside, temp of camera areas. Auto records any movement or takes a snap shot. i have a humidity meter in view of the camera. I had to install an internet router onboard 100gig per month with EE costs £20 inc Vat as our marina internet is a bit hit and miss (understatement!!!).
Overall its a great system, I know people in our Marina that have paid lots and lots of money for so called boat systems that are not very good. Had to have wires all over the place etc. Try this cost effective route it works very well and tells you if anyone goes on board with real time streaming. I can then just ring the marina staff and say someone is interfering with the boat or report anything I see on live stream . Had it active over 12 months now, its never missed a beat. and under £250. You can add as many extra cameras as you want at about £70 each.
I works for me. what do others think?

Just for cameras you can just get a sim that costs £20-£30 per year for 12gb from three (see Amazon), that's all you need for remote monitoring of several cameras checked daily.

When I have looked into this I learn that for full two way comms a Fixed IP SIM is necessary. Is this correct as most reports seem to use a conventional SIM on the cheapest deals available. Fixed IP Sims are considerably higher cost per GB.

No, I don't think that a static IP is necessary - if thats what you are saying.
There are loads of IoT devices out there that allow connections like that.
It is quite scary actually.
The way it works is that the IoT device (a camera in this case) connects to an internet server.
This gives the IoT device a two way connection between itself and the server.
Then all you have to do is connect with the same server and you will have all the electronic data necessary to connect to the IoT (camera) device.
The scary bit is that a lot of these cheap IoT devices connect to unscrupulous servers - many are Chinese.
The security risk is that it is possible for the manufacturer of the IoT device to be even more unscrupulous and connect to other devices INSIDE your private LAN/Router.

I have several of these unscrupulous IoT devices but I have put them on their own network outside of my firewalls.
I have one of these cheap cameras on the boat.
Mine cost £25 and it connects to a standard Vodafone SIM only contract running on a 4G router located on the boat.
All I do is run an app on my Android phone to get a two way communication - the app shows live video and plays live audio and the camera can pan and tilt.
I've set it up so that it emails with a photo if there is an intruder.

But, back to your point.
There is no need to have a static IP.
Just any internet connection will do.
