Long shot I know... but does anyone have a reliable outboard I can borrow to get between wherever we put Black Magic and Titchmarsh during the pirate weekend? I'll be picking up a friend and his small children at some point and dont want to have to move Black Magic if I've managed to get a spot and I don't fancy rowing them... my outboard is just pants. It's only hanging on the back of the boat for karmic reasons...

Lisa, you may have my Honda 2.3.

I will be bringing my new (to me) 8ft pram dinghy and using my Seagull, because I can.

I will also be fetching along my Merc 3.3 just in case.

What size outboard do you want? Is your pants one for sale?

Oooh the honorable Sir Jim rides to the rescue once more. Thanks.

What size outboard? dunno. Anything I appropriate I suppose. My current one is 4hp and it always works when we bring it home and run it in the dustbin, but I have NEVER been able to start it on the water! Hadn't thought about selling it.

Assuming the good ship Morgana or Full Circle give Sirenia permission to moor along side she will be available as a water taxi from Titchmarsh to Stone Point on Saturday afternoon and Sunday Morning.
Beach landings are also possible.
Bring your own life jackets.

Then I believe I know what ails the machine.

Full Circle would be honoured to have Sirenia alongside. Especially as I have very big flags.:p

Lisa,

Having been through an outboard saga myself recently, i will gladly have a look over said machine and lend what assistance I can.

Thanks - well I will bring it to Stone Point anyway and perhaps we'll have time to have a look.

BTW - Marc just nearly wet himself when he saw that I'd put down it was 4hp. He said he's ether 1.2 or 1.4, but certainly no more than 2.

Frankly I haven't a clue about the cursed item.

From dim observation, looked like a mariner 2.

Inflatable dinghies and outboard motors are the devil's work. You would have thought in this hi-tech age someone would have sorted something out that worked better.

I too have an outboard motor that starts in the dustbin at home but has other ideas when attached to the dinghy. Or it starts just fine on the way ashore, but refuses to start on the way back to the boat.

Things I hate about them:

1. Dinghy too heavy for me to move without employing lifting tackle.
2. You always end up wet/muddy/sandy.
3. You sometimes fall over into the mud when getting out of dinghy (or is that just me?)
4. You sometimes fall over into the dinghy when going home (or is that the effects of the alcohol comsumed ashore?)
5. They are impossible to row (err, I think that is me)
6. Outboard motor might start, might not.
7. Impossible to deal with all the stop and start and choke knobs while steering at the same time, so boat heads away from boat or shore on a manic course. Come to think of it, that might just be me.
8. When you have deflated your dinghy and go to put it in it's bag, it's never quite small enough to fit.

When you have found the perfect outboard, or found out how to make yours more reliable, let me know.
