Relay description/nomenclature

I'm a bit of an electronics ignoramus - but willing to learn!

The electronic relay on my engine instrumentation is described as '12v 28Ra 40amp 5pin'.

a) what does the '28Ra' refer to?

b) The price from the engine supplier is around £5 each. However, relays on fleabay can be had for considerably less when buying multiples. BUT these don't seem to have the 'Ra' specified. Will they suffice?

28RA is a Lucas code for a type of relay. There are various different versions of it. If you look at the following link and scroll down to 28RA, you'll see the different versions, their pin codes and their internal wiring - http://www.vitessesteve.co.uk/PDF/Lucas-relays%20etc.pdf

It isn't - the OP needs a 40A relay, the one you've suggested is a 20/30A.
