I seem to have lost my google fu :(

I had the mast unstepped as part of the winter haul-out.

There are through-deck fittings near its base for VHF aerial, navigation lights and RADAR and each should have a stainless steel cap screwed on. They have all been lost before I bought the boat. Any idea where I might source replacements, please?

I have a V shaped ridge tile I place over the hole. But have previously plugged with silicone, gaffer Tape, and a block of wood found iN a corner of the yard. Anything to keep out the rain!

It doesn't have to keep out breaking waves (well hopefully not)

It would have to have done just that earlier this year :)

I can easily do something like you suggest as a temporary measure but I was rather hoping to replace the caps as a more long-term plan. I live in Jersey and am keen to cut through Brittany to the Bay of Biscay and so want to make un-stepping easier and more 'routine'. The plan is to send the mast by lorry. The RADAR data cable can't be cut so I'm planning to re-route it through a conduit in the cabin - they had to unscrew loads of panelling to get it out on Monday!

Interesting. I cant say I have ever seen caps for through deck glands. Improvising/ taping over as pvb suggests may be the answer.

Not applicable to the radar maybe but deck sockets and plugs might be the solution for the nav light wiring and VHF aerial for ease of frequent disconnection and reconnection. The deck sockets should all come with caps.

I suspect the OP meant deck sockets - he didn't mention glands. Over the years there have been a number of manufacturers of deck sockets and some must have fallen by the wayside. You may have to fit new sockets to get caps again, but a photo of the offending fittings may bring a response - either a positive ID of the type or someone who has a few in their spares box...

Rob.

Deck sockets and plugs is what I meant by "through-deck fittings" - no wonder I couldn't google them! Anyway, I've now found them. They did come with caps and chains but have long been lost. I'll email the manufacturer to see if I can get spares - they're not listed separately :(

Oh, and the caps are plastic and the fittings chromed brass rather than SS as I thought.

Those are not particularly good fittings and have largely been superseded by plastic types or deck glands. Now might be a good time to replace them with modern fittings such as Dri Plugs which will come with a cap.

Yes, my experience with that type has been very poor. On the other hand I have had the same Dri-plug in my cockpit for the past 20 years, it is probably original to the boat so is 30 years old. Still works well. The Bulgin ones on my Tiller pilot are also good and come with caps.
