Just arrived home to find our registration renewal on the doormat. New section in there regarding the third-party liability insurance as discussed on previous threads. However..... it also asks for the expiry date of the insurance and states that the insurance must be valid for the full duration of the registration. How does that work then? If I put the April expiry will they still issue me with a licence but trust me to renew?

Notes on the reg docs and on the website are no help.

Anyone here know the score?

Looks like the work of a work experience student....again!

Maybe - but whoever could have copied the BW words on Insurance.
Also interesting that both are only asking for a minimum £1million cover when most Inland Policies seem to be offering £2m or £3m as a matter of course and provide a printed statement of cover that can be handed to whoever as evidence. MDL require £2m.

Anyway, I'm sure we are all bright enough to know what it means :D

micro rant-

Just shows how disconnected from reality large organisations are.

OR extremely arrogant of both BW and EA to assume that we organise our lives around their requirements.

Even renewing a vehicle licence only requires that a MOT and insurance are in force on the day that the licence commences.

I notice on re-reading the renewal form that a valid BSS certificate "during registration". Do they mean during the period of registration or merely during the process of registration.

We have new style form this year, and as I've never bothered to keep a copy of the old ones, I don't know what they said.

I guess we'll have to wait to see what happens!

BTW It's probably impossible to renew one's insurance policy in advance, but the renewal of either depend on when the vessel was first tested / policy first started.

Whatever the papers say, or however you read or interpret them its really quite simple.

When you register you must have a valid BSS Certificate and valid insurance and they must stay in force or be renewed throughout the period of registration.
Just like an MOT and Insurance for the car.

And if you get picked up, for whatever reason, and they find you're delinquent, we might read about you in the papers :D

OK, so they made a pigs ear of the new paperwork but lets keep a sense of perspective. How about if we register our disappointment by not sending them a Xmas Card this year?

I would like to buck the trend here by defending the registration process offered by the EA.

Each year, I simply phone the nice lady (Maria, this year) and give them the renewal details, advise them they already have the BSS on file, and this year informed them of the insurance details**

They take payment by card, and the job is done. I sign the form and send it back in the SAE they provided.

The service in each case has been absolutely perfect.

Do we really need another 'Thread of doom' about this?

**This year, I also informed them the insurance expires Feb 7th, and will be renewed: No problem according top them

No,
There's no Stamp in Self Addressed Envelope,

It's silent - as in Pee in Bath

Well, it's a slow day,
snowing a bit,
and it's cold outside.

Amidst all the having a go at EA, has anyone noticed that -

Tenders are still half price

'twas a "concession this" last year

So thank you,
Thank you.
Thank You
Angela Q

(sort of rhymes; dunnit)

Fell better now?

I feel your pain...........and feeling left out

Definately feeling left out here as my £50 a year salt water Medway donation seems a bit weedy.Do you actually have to boat on the Thames to pay the fees,am feeling an unreasoning urge to cough up the thick end of a grand just to be able to join in the moaning and whinging about EA fees.

I haven't even opened my envelope from the EA. I am blowed if I am going to pay them early so they have the advantage of my hard come by cash. I will pay them some time in January.

I pay them monthly, at least I get started before it's all paid up.

The first year they introduced it I was out on the river before they had taken out the first debit. That was a result.

You lot are lucky, I've not received anything from the EA yet, so no idea if mine will contain an envelope with or without a stamp...

Guess they must not want my money :)

Fret ye not - I am sure you will not be overlooked or even forgotten :D

As for the envelope, it is not with stamp, but there is a neatly printed little box, precisely located in the traditional top right hand corner, within which to stick one of appropriate value.
