Can anyone tell me where and with whom i need to register my boat for useing on Scottish waterways ? and where can i find some info on the rules , regs and etiquette of boating , i dont want to just rock up to a jetty and " park in someones driveway " as it were :-/ is there a good book or website i shoul be visiting ? thanks ye again :-)

If you are on LL, info here...http://www.loch-lomond.net/
Register at the national park office on the slipway at Balloch, they have a good chart of the Loch, and booklet
on byelaws. Bill Porter at Ardlui Marina will swap your new chart and a few quid for his marked-up version showing hazards, piers, anchorages, food, etc etc...well worth having. Lots of useful info in RYA power boating books.

I had my first boat at Macfarlanes Balmaha in 1976... It hasn't changed one bit! Downside is that the moorings are seasonal, ending in Sepember so you miss out on those perfect sunny winter days with clear blue sky, snow on the tops and the loch to yourself.

ye its a shame, particularly as our winters are now so mild :-) i assume tho I`ll still be able to use the slips around the loch ? i had infact toyed with the idea of just trailering up an down from Glasgow, but quite like the idea of a mooring, what would your advice be as a seasoned boater ?

Yes, slipways are open all year, so easy for you to pick the good days and go up there. Moorings are great as you can just turn up and get out there very quickly. I used to leave work in Hamilton and be at Balmaha within the hour on summers evenings.

i`m actually due to run out to Balmaha tomorrow for a look around , if it hasn`t changed since 1976 i`ll be delighted
