Evening all,

Just want to to draw your attention to the Great River Race on Saturday the 17th of September as it will involve river closures.

The event from Millwall Dock will involve 320 boats rowing along the "north" bank of the Thames up to Ham House near Richmond Upon Thames.

Controlled navigation will be in place from 1240 near Millwall Dock till 1450. Any craft (including competitor support craft) must remain outside the controlled area.

The finish line will involve a River Closure from the lower end of Eel Pie Island and Petersham Ait between 1625 until 1900. Boats heading downstream from Teddington Lock are advised not to travel downstream to Eel Pie Island as there is limited space to take a turn and wait.

Along the course of the race the PLA have advised that masters of vessels, not involved in the event including competitor support craft, are to navigate with due care and attention given the number of low-freeboard craft transiting the area.

Rebellion will be rowing with the other Erik The Red Explorer Scouts in a Thames Rosalind Skiff called Dorney. The boat will be coxed by Mrs Ramage SWMBO).
 
SWMBO is rowing in Lilian's tender. I'll be there is support... probably in The White Cross
 
The plastic cats, based on the Ecocat are still in service based at Richmond ....... with the 36hp diesel outboards :o

But they've not got some more alloy cats - Kew and Southwark -

"Kew and Southwark, join the first of the boats, Lambeth, which has been in service for the last two years. The last of the new boats, Barnes, will enter service in the autumn. All four boats are named after London bridges. They have been specially designed to work on the tidal Thames with reduced weight and lower fuel consumption than the boats they are replacing.

The launches have twin hulls made of aluminium and each weighing 11 tonnes. They were built by Northumberland’s Alnmaritec following a five year PLA-led design and research project with Newcastle University to create a new design boat for the Thames.

The 13.5metre launches are each powered by two 200bhp John Deere marine diesel engines and can achieve top speeds of around 20 knots.

The PLA boats were notorious for their dirty wash many years ago. I for one nearly lost several guests overboard whilst moored watching the boat race even though we were prepared for the following flotilla's tidal waves.
The Cats do certainly run a cleaner wash.

But in all fairness they were beautifully built boats. Were they Nelson's/Halmatics?
