Thanks, i needed that!

Having been down to the course, I'd keep clear of Kingston unless you need to, wind makes roweres even worse news, and I don't think the organisers have left enough room for someone to get past a Turk's launch if it decides to go past...

Was up that way yesterday. River wasn't busy so not much of a problem. Only trouble is that the regatta boards are still out in the evening when the regatta has finished for the day. I know it is a pain to take in the signs and buoys on saturday and put them back out on sunday but the sea scouts seemed to manage that up at hampton court last weekend.

The EA Standard Conditions for Events contain the following requirements:

9.You must place notices advising all river users that the event is taking place. These must be displayed at the locks above and below the site of your event and at each end of the event area.

10.If your event requires marker buoys these must be removed at the end of each day of the event along with the notices required by condition 9.

They get round that by claiming they are two different regattas: Kingston and Kingston 500.
Mind you, they had set up for Saturday when I went to Kingston on Friday afternoon...

They don't 'get round' anything - although they may take liberties with regard to complying with the requirements placed on them by the EA. The wording is quite specific - 'at the end of EACH day'.

Unfortunately, The EA cannot possibly police every one of these events due to both financial and manpower constraints so the question arises as to how organisers can be 'persuaded' to ensure that they play by the rules.

I didn't write the 'Standard Conditions for Events' (not rules) so don't shoot the messenger - and in any case, organisers agree to abide by them. Actually, as the buoys and signs are not illuminated, I think it makes sense for them to be removed from a safety point of view.
I am sure you will agree that Henley is a rather special case?

Condition 7 is good: "You must not obstruct or annoy river or towpath users" :D
