Have any of you had any experience or heard any horror stories about Regal boats? I'm looking at a 1996, twin diesel, Regal Commadore 320 tomorrow, it has low hours and a good survey.
My last boat was a Regal 233, purchased second hand from the UK importer.
Found out after a year of ownership that the previous owner still thought it was theirs and I believe was still paying mooring fees as well as me!.
Luckly I had a bill of sale which gave the broker the authority to sell the boat on behalf of the owner.
The previous owner (a recently widowed lady) still had it for sale &
Fireworks happened when I moved the boat away from the marina and advertised it with a respectable dealer up river. Solicitors and risk of exposure forced the dealer to pay the previous owner.
Dealer claimed they had no records of my purchase, due to a complex trade in. - obviously CASH is a problem to him and I did not trade anything in and paid in full.
If you buy a REGAL, talk to each owner from the importer onwards. if there is a gap in ownership, walk away. you may end up buying something that somebody else thinks they own and can take back.
Also ask the question what each person thought the boat was sold/bought for? You may learn something very intereting about a certain dealership?
In terms of the boat, i've had a small Regal for 3 years (18LSR) and it has behaved imppecably. The gel coat still looks like new and the only thing to have gone wrong was the walk through windscreen was becoming tight to close and a couple of press studs lost oh and a spark plug went. The upholstery is good, the carpets are good no complaints at all.
