Does anyone know the approximate cost of refurbishing a prop. I have just bought one second hand it has a few small chips and could do with a new coating. Also can anyone recomend a company to do this sort of work. The prop is a Volvo one made in alloy.

Yup, the only company I ever go to. Cost to refurb will be about 40 quid. They will repaint it once they refurb'd it as well, albeit in black.

which brings up another interesting question. I've been looking for a floating prop spanner for ages. Loads of US sites have them, but have never seen one in the UK

Happy got one from SD thrown in when he bought a SS prop for his boat. Big luminous thing.

Brendan - when I had merc leg I bought one. Any Mercrusier outlet should have them and I think I saw them in Aladins Cave the other day. I still have mine, but other club member has it on loan!

The only problem with the SD supplied one is that it's not a genuine Merc item, which means it's only good for a couple of uses.

The genuine floating spanner should have a ref to merc/quicksilver moulded into it, and have a metal band around it!

So whats the problem. You get one to fit the drive/outboard you have. Ok so its not an OEM part, but then again the price is not OEM either!
