Refurbishing mast?

Just about to launch our Hunter Medina but her mast is looking a bit shabby and I have a few days spare. It's marked and the anodising is worn through in places. I'm thinking maybe spray painting with smooth satin hammerite or silver spray stove paint. Is it a really bad idea? I've tried all sorts of cleaners, soapy water, oxalic acid, acetone. nothing improves it.

A rushed job will look crap too, you may as well stick with looking crap without the wasted effort

I agree.

But there are two camps;

Practicality
and
Aesthetics.

I am firmly in function before form camp.

If time, aesthetics can be dealt with in free time.

But all people have their own opinions and priorities which makes the world go round.

I have always painted my bare ali mast with ordinary enamel. No it does not look good like anodised but is easily touched up every winter keeps it tidy. But as said get out there sailing. ol'will

You're right Kevin. I need to stop being so precious and get out there. Thank you. I'll leave it till the winter. I'll have plenty of time then, wishing I was out sailing!

Coating old aluminium spars with baby oil improves the appearance but it's not a lasting solution.

Talking of snake oil.
I have an untreated teak grating in the cockpit. I accidently spilt some 4 stroke outboard oil on it in April.
I went sailing this week and the spilt bit is a lovely golden brown and non greasy .

I thought of buying a 50l drum of the stuff, decant it and sell it as the new breakthrough in hardwood longevity and lustre.
I just need a name now......
