Refueling in Falmouth

In this weeks Falmouth Packet it was announced by FOS (The fuel barge) that they would no longer supply deisel to private vessels because of the hassle of the paperwork required and also inferred that some marina outlets may follow suit.. I am suprised the this has not been posted before.

Just called them to confirm and its true. Not as has been stated due to paperwork but due to advise from Customs. Yes, and you may as well pay for a berth, as they'll charge you harbour dues for a five-minute visit. Come to think of it, I wonder if they charge harbour dues for a visit to their fuel berth?

It wouldn't surprise me. But at £1.26 a litre.................no thanks.
Apart from that I dont like there attitude. Doubt we will ever visit here again

Mostly agree but Med fuel hasnt been duty free for the few years I've been travelling, and it has gone up by about 30% over the past year or so due to the falling pound - so all isnt rosy in the Med.

Not sure how much it is at present, but ISTR it was 1.3 euros per litre last April, which would be £1.30 per litre, or as good as.

I'd dearly like to know what the "advice" from HMRC was. I had a good contact with HMRC just before the announcement and he was keen to keep the paperwork as simple as possible, because they didn't want RDCOs to drop out. Their duty notes say as much.

However, what Head Office says and what the local officers do is another matter - and that needs to be sorted.

The documentation is not onerous, and not much more than the dealer is supposed to do anyway.

OTOH the non commercial sales may be so small that they really can't be bothered to continue and blame HMRC as the reason. In any event the Barge is entitled to trade how it wants, it's not part of his registration conditions that he has to sell to anyone.

I suggest a blockade (when the weather gets warmer).
