Reformulated Dandoline – better alternative?

I’ve stripped out a cabin as the foam-backed vinyl has died a death. All the surfaces are rough fibreglass. I want to paint the fibreglass with something smart-looking and easy to clean. The surfaces are mostly vertical, with some undersides. Condensation will be ever present with two people sleeping in the space. I will be gluing battens on some of the surfaces, too.

Reading up on here, Danboline seems to fit the bill. But satisfaction seems to have trailed off – possibly due to a reformulation (tried ‘Araldite’ lately?!!). So what’s the best alternative? Likely candidates are:

Any thoughts on preparation? I was thinking anti-bacterial surface spray to kill the mould, followed by hot, soapy water, followed by good rinse with water. This enough? Suppose much depends on choice of paint...

I prefer Blakes to Danboline but have used international u/c & gloss is some area`s

I used Danboline about a month ago to paint out quite a few lockers on our new to us boat - both the grey and white versions. Stuff worked just as it always has and left a good, well adhered surface. I have been using the stuff since 2006 and haven't noticed any change in the formulation.

If you're going to paint you'll need to sand the whole lot back to clean fibreglass. Why not panel the inside with 4mm play with some insulation on the back then cover with something nice.

I painted the forepeak after stripping out rotten foam backed vinyl with Sadolin superdec satin opaque wood protection based on a PBO article. Scraping the **** left from the foam and grinding it back with a wire brush on an angle grinder is a job not to underestimated in it's messyness. The paint covers quite well, 2 or 3 coats. It must have a fungicide in it as not a spot of mold (even in hidden crevices). It's water based so takes a while to dry but no smell. I was so pleased I did the quarterberths as well. As it's uninsualted, condensation is a consideration. The paint is probably not as durable as an oil based but it's so easy to touch up any dings as it's waterbased and satin (forepeak on siri is the heads so not a high traffic area).

Yes, I was thinking to wire-brush (gently!) the fibreglass with a drill and angle-grinder beforehand. Respirator on, windows open and go for it! Most of the surfaces are going to be hidden by Formica panels (held in place by mini touch-latches to allow easier access in future to remove any mould http://www.accesscomponents.co.uk/e...nents/catches-and-latches/touch-latches/e3000) with insulation glued to the back of the panels.

I used Blakes on FC in the bilges - it fell off in 3 seasons. Back to Danboline for me, its shinier too.

Sugar soap followed by standard Bathroom paint in white - still working 4 years later - wipes clean, and if it gets scuffed, I just roller some new on...
