Refitting my boat - B&G or Raymarine.

I upgraded to the Raymarine E series 120 with AIS, digital radar, new I70 instruments and down stairs have my old st 6000 multidisplay and autopilot. Love the IPad remote hook up over WIFI and iPhone control over autopilot. Not had any issues in the 18 months it's been in and still discovering new features.

Can't comment on the other systems as we've had all ray marine since we bought the boat

There is a RTW in our near future and the boat is in refit as I write this.

Part of this refit will be a new plotter/instruments/sonar. I also want integration of a cockpit Garmin 620 and AIS/iPad via wifi.

Which would you prefer and why?

TA as always.

Raymarine products tend 'not to play well with others'.
If you've got all Raymarine everything works well enough, but once you start throwing other makes into the mix it all goes pearshaped.

I fitted a previous generation C90W Raymarine plotter, with an SP10 core pack, and a letest genration P70 autopilot head. High Def Raymarine radar, but I also fitted 2 B&G Triton heads for wind/depth/speed and a better XTE/Highway.

The only non compatibility I have had (after the usual plumbing the depths of the setup menus) was that you can't control the group backlighting for a night setting, so that is 2 operations.

I love the B&G Tritons, they are cheap and very good indeed. It all feeds an Actisense NMEA 0183 interface for USB connection to netbook PC and further displays on screen using NavMonPC and OpenCPN.

I like the setup a lot, and would only upgrade the Raymarine SP10 to latest standards.

Oddly enough, I now have outputs for Seatalk, SeatalkNG, NMEA0183 and 2000. If you need them!
