Refitting chainplates - fill up and redrill?

We're re-installing our deck fittings and have followed the procedure outlined here: http://www.boatus.com/magazine/2013/April/rebed-deck-fittings-correctly-2.asp (drilling out the core, filling with epoxy/glass and redrilling).

Our chainplates, however, go through straight fibreglass, no core. The slots appear to be considerably wider and mis-shapen compared to the plate itself so I'm wondering if I should do the same with the chainplates, or whether the Arbormast/Sikaflex solution (to be answered in my previous thread) is ok to plug in the excess. If I fill with epoxy and redrill, is that going to help or hinder whatever flexing occurs in the plates? Is it better to have space between the plate and the deck, to be filled with something to waterseal it, allowing for some flexing?

Cheers,

Jamie
