Refilling Ink Jet Cartridges (Non Boaty)

Hi,

I have come to the conclusion that my kids must be drinking the ink for their Ink Jet printers... it would appear that they are getting through about 1 a week at the minute.. and at the price of them, it makes Vintage Champagne look good value!

So - has anyone tried one of these refilling systems that seem to half or quarter the usage costs?

I don't think it would be a good idea to use them when printing digi photo's - but the usual essays and god knows what should be ok??

Any one got any experience?

Make them print in draft mode when possible, I have not changed my cartridges since I changed the setting, Luckily my kids are to young to know how to change it back again!!

Hey Craig,
False economy with these cheap refills. We tried distributing them out to the provenances with some success, however major complaints. As suggested, try printing in draft mode. Have HP's colour printers in the office and they last for sometime.

Our current colour injets have been on ink refills all their lives (except for the first original cartidges they came with). An HP for about 4 years and a Canon about 1 1/2 years and no problems. However, the refill kit supplier we use is stopping stocking them because he says whenever anyone gets a print head problem for whatever reason whatsoever, the ink refills, and consequently him too, always get blamed regardless.

They do photos just as well as the original inks.

HP Photosmart 130 (purely for digi pics)
Epson Stylus 600
Epson Stylus somethign or other....

Suppliers - Staples / WHsmith / PC world (Rarely!) usual high street suppliers. As for brands, depends... black i usually use the shop own brand as they use thsi for their homework. Colour usually REM by the manufacturer...

Looked on the web yesterday for cheaper suppliers... Insight (Nee action) seemed fairly reasonable... any other suggestions????

I dont use them for my serious stuff cos I need top quality and consistent colour using calibrated printers and monitors, but I do use them for a couple of low cost everday basic printers and theyre absolutely fine for general domestic use.
Stay away from the refill kits, theyre messy and unpredictable, the compatible cartridges are the 'best buy'

Refilling works fine but the quality of the ink is not as good as the OEM ink. If you use it for photo prints expect the colour to fade away within 8 weeks.

In general, 'Photo quality prints' and 'cheap ink' are mutually exclusive!
For best quality use the printer manufacturers own inks and papers.

I use JR refill inks on our Epson stylus colour 740; never had a problem or bought a replacement cartridge in 3 years and about 5000 sheets of A4. Like the others say, the colours aren't terribly permanent; they bleach in sunlight v. quickly. But having saved £200+ on cartridges it's a small price to pay.

If you're printing a lot of plain text, you should consider buying a 2nd hand HP laserjet 3 or 4; I've got an old LJ4 which cost me £20 off ebay 18 months ago and 2000 sheets later I still haven't had to change the toner! And if you're any good with your hands, they are dead easy to fix; just like a mechano set!

Had a colour cartridge refilled yesterday by a company called Cartridge World (01634 581 010). The printer is an Epson Stylus Photo 830U and I must say the print quality is just as good as an original, even on pictures.
The cost was £12 instead of about £20.

This company has branch just up the road from me.they have filled a cartridge or two while I waited.part of world wide chain.quality is ok for basic image/text work.we are using HP printers.

I suffered same problem, and found HP printers to be sensitive to the quality of the refill. Blacvk refilled ctgs from viking seem ok, but the colour needs to be HP's own. Solved the longterm cost by buying a cheap lazer printer (Brother) that has more than paid for itself already on ink savings, plus added benefit of faster print out and not so sensitive to water on the printed page!!!!
