Reefing a furling genoa

PTFE spray lubricant on the luff rope might help.

Sadly, it made little difference. Sails are OE Elvestrom, furler Harken Cruiser, in mast, Charleston Spars.

The luff ropes are a very tight fit in the foils. Ditto on another SP Cruiser I assisted with fitting the main in Crosshaven.
With the main half hoisted, lifting the clutch and releasing halyard tension hardly drops it at all.

Sounds like the sail has the wrong sized luff rope for the foil. I hadn’t realised these came in lots of sizes, till I tried to get a second hand sail and discovered it wouldn’t fit.

I think most know what happen when you tension a halyard .
One of the main advantages of a furling system is you don't need to go forward .
And there other ways to stop excessive heeling .
As for going g faster the extra .x of a kts make no difference to me one way or another as we never heading for a pub :)
With my laminate jib I don't see any significant change in shape when tensioning the halyard, at least not in cruising terms. We normally tension it sufficiently to remove any creases only. My swivels are greased every year and the drum race (Furlex) in alternate years, and it is still noticeably easier to furl with a slack halyard.

But they are in use, working OK and have been since the boat was delivered in 2008 to the first owner. Thet both fit, but are just a good tight fit in the foils.

I dont have any problems, but some on here appear tp believe I have.

I am using what I have and am happy to continue with doing so.

Shortly I shall be fitting our new reacher/code zero to a recently fitted Facnor furler. Pete Sanders has just built the sail, I shall soon be able to see haw that one compares to the Elvestrom OR sails.
