reeds online

But you have mislead us, it clearly states the "USB Version" is updated when you access Reedsonline, but nothing on the stick is updated, you may as well use your own stick, memory card, harddrive or whatever to just store files.

I am new to this. I didn't even see the stand at SIBS but I have to agree it says "USB Version" and that sounds like all the info is on the USB stick.

Can anyone tell us what it says on the box the stick comes in? Does that make it any clearer?

A repeat of my previous post......

Some of the press reports gave the impression that the whole almanac came on the usb stick, and that every time you went to the reeds online site, the usb stick would update with the latest data.

This is on their own website
http://www.reedsonline.com/events/southampton-boat-show-news/reedsonline-com-goes-live.htm

"The USB version features 2009 data, which is automatically updated each time Reedsonline.com is accessed"

You can read my other comments about misrepresentation on this thread

Yes its completely misleading. There are other similar products, e.g I bought an Admiralty Chartplotter on a disc, all the data was on the disc, I can update the tidal information by going to the Admiralty website.
Me thinks someone in the Reeds PR department is not very computer literate. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Having just read through the PR article I agree, it is not explicitly clear that the stick is for storing downloaded pages.

I will put this right and thank you for pointing this out.

As previously posted where customers feel aggreived we will of course reimburse their purchase.

I'll look forward to the words "USB Version" being removed from the web site and the product then.

It isn't a USB verion at all is it...? It is a web version that you can either copy selected pages to the USB or cut/paste to word etc.

If the term "USB version" is removed from the product line up and web site then I will certainly say good man to Simon... but until then it is still grossly misleading.

Ok I bought this product on the basis that i could download parts of teh Almanac to the USB stick for use on delivery trips, the idea was to save having to carry the whole book on a trip down to the west country etc. I purchased this after a long discussion on teh Kelvin Hughes stand believing this to be the case. Now it seems that I will have to cut and paste the thing page by page which frankly will take way too long.

I will be mailing them to see how they would like to resolve the issue

Hence my quote earlier on about using some mirroring software to effectively cut and paste the pages I want from the website to my PC / USB stick without the need to spend time looking through the pages I want, to then have to go through the rigmarole of cut and page each page to word (or similar). This would also mean that I would have to buy another copy of MS office (or similar) for the boat PC.
I'm not unhappy about having an online almanac - it's a brilliant idea, I'm just hacked off that it was not quite what I had expected.

I see reedsonline is officially offline now! the domain name has gone!

I also see that reedsalmanac.co.uk has issued a statement distancing themselves from reedsonline. Strange that in one hand they put their badge of approval on the reedsonline site, and then with the other deny they ever had any connection with it.

The Companies House website reveals quite publicly that AC&Black were very much involved. Janet Spinlove alias Janet Murphy, Director of Adlard Coles was both a Director and shareholder with Reedsonline.

The issue of free Almanacs is a sign of guilt to me.

It was a joint venture. A&C Black are owned by Bloomsbury, who publish Harry Potter, inter alia. They (i.e. Bloomsbury) are the guys who ultimately hold the purse strings and I'll bet it's they who insisted on the plug being pulled, so you could try a begging letter to Jo Rowling, maybe? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
