Hi, just tried to log on to online almanac to find it is no more, has anyone had any dealings with them about this, wondered if we could claim a hard copy.
Thanks

That's a right bummer, however I guess a lot of people, me included thought they were going to get a soft copy of the book, rather than access to a website.

Ho Hum back to hard copy then

This just really takes the f**@#!!@~ biscuit. There was a post on last year about the fact that some of us thought we had a case where we were misold the memory stick package online to find after 48 days they cut the online almanac off.

The case of being missold a product was sorted out on here with someone from Reeds coming in and apologising - which was fair enough.

The thing that really gets my goat is that they haven't even bothered to contact me, to tell me that the service is no longer available. They have all the details they need e-mail address and home address. If that's the service they provide then I'd like to see exactly how easy it will be to get my money back.

That is absolutely appauling IMO. To take people's money not knowing if they can provide the service is basically ripping people off.

I can't imagine that the online verion took much admin so they should have left it available for existing subscribers whilst not selling new subscribers. At the end of 2009 they could then have shut down without ripping off their existing subscribers.

I suppose that this is a sign of the "online" times. If we subscribe to a service and pay in advance then we are trusting that the company will deliver... fact of life but no fun when they don't.

I am not sure just how much Reeds Online had to do with the paper copy of Reeds. They may have been different companies run by different poeple AFAIK.

It's not Reeds who took your money. Adlard Coles licensed the name and content to some other bunch. Seems they are offering a free 2010 Reeds to those who want one.

Looks like it was a joint venture between A & C Black and Square Mile, (they of crappy wifi provision in marinas /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif )

Adlard Coles are an imprint of A&C Black who, in their turn, are owned by Bloomsbury (UK Publishers of JK Rowling, amongst other things). Publishers are feeling the pinch, like everyone else, and anything that's not pulling its weight financially (and I bet this isn't) is being "re-evaluated".

Ring up Nigel Newton (Chairman of Bloomsbury) and give him what for /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif.

Sadly, that isn't the way business' run. If you thought, god we might be out of business in 3 months time, what do we do about the people with 9 months subscription left? Then you wouldn't be selling anything right now. It's sad people have lost cash...but at least it's not all your savings...think of what is going on with the bank situ all over the world...sad state that business' are all at risk of going under...just be ultra cautious with the cash..

I feel that if Reeds or Adlard coles are still in business one is accountable for the loss we have suffered. I too was dismayed that the website had disappeared , but it only took a nanosecond to realize the webmaster had not been paid! so they closed the site. Although a claim may be possible, I guess Adlard Coles and Reeds are so close to bankruptcy themselves that it would be a futile exercise!! whats the latest on any compensation offers??

Also notice Marinecall SMS stuff on site. No great loss for most !

"Marinecall SMS service closure
iTouch, operator of the Marinecall telephone, fax and SMS (Short Message Service) weather service, has notified Reeds that they have withdrawn the Marinecall SMS service. The 160 character limit of mobile telephone SMS messaging makes it difficult to provide sufficiently detailed forecasts, and the service has decreased significantly in usage over time.

The closure only affects the Marinecall SMS service (see RNA 2009 pages 95 and 96); the Marinecall telephone and fax services (see RNA 2009 pages 94 and 95), continue unchanged."
