Can anyone explain why tidal streams on charts show 13 lines (-6 to HW to +6) whilst Reeds mini atlases only choose to show 12. Apart from the obvious "12 fits nicely across 2 pages", is there any other justification?

-6 is almost the same as +6 to enough accuracy for tidal stream chartlets.

for the diamonds on admiralty charts they are working to a much higher degree of accuracy and the 20 min time difference is significant.

having said that, the diamonds give a totally spurious impression of accuracy as they imply that the rate and direction can be applied over a large area around the diamond. this is of course nonsense but is taken as gospel by rya examiners!

that should stir up some reaction.
