Nobody can see their spelling mistakes on a computer, it's a well known phenomenon, though as far as I know no-one has explained it. Anyway, stuff IT, pour another gin & tonic! Good luck.

Thats the trouble with all those onions - anyway - how to I turn the dog into a chicken - don't fancy it - hes got warts - god knows what he's eaten all his life - has been a major dustbin raider all his life - the neigbours used to think it was the foxes making the mess - unfortunately he was caught red tongued.

Re: Redundancy looms!!!

Finnaly corrected the spelling! - had thought of this though I initially won't be able to committ permenantly so would have to find someone to look after him abroad - which would not be easy.

Hope we will see you on your territory

If you were in my neck of the woods, you could leave him with my crew, he keeps making noises about ships dog/cat etc. Even got pictures of dogs in his cabin, although that might be his girlfriend!!

Ten years ago I decided that I'd rather regret what I had done than what I had not done. We sail in the Med in the summer and both look for work in the winter the mortgage having been paid. I'm 64 now and work has dried up but we are off again in April, or in May if some work appears.

Good Luck

Chris , the irony of my advice is that today I got a phone call about a contract and after a telephone interview I've got a face to face interview next Wednesday. No matter how good the job , I'll need to tell them it's only to the end of July at the most - then sailing takes over !!!!!!

Thankfully, none of us know what is around the corner, so, go for it!
Once a couple of major decisions have been made (house? sell it or rent out. Dog? if it is that old, leave it behind with some caring relatives or friends, much kinder in the long run) everything else falls into place!!
Treat this new chapter in life as an adventure and get as much as you (and your wife) can out of it.
I'm sure after looking at the length of this thread you'll realise it would be foolish not to go!!
I must admit I can't wait to go later this year. My friends are queing to visit us. Regarding relatives, communication is so easy and cheap from most countries nowadays and she can fly back at the drop of a hat...
Annie Hill has also written a couple of good, basic books.

Meant to reply earlier, turned my back and over 50 posts! Good luck Chris, hope you do it. I'm in the semiconductor industry and in 20 years I've never seen it as crap as it is at the moment. Still, got a job, they pay me well and I've got the kids to think about but SWMBO has Plans, is studying Coastal Skipper and wants to go off for a year somewhere. I'd like to do it when I'm 45/46 so a few years to get ready. SWMBO has already worked out how big a yacht we could buy if we sold the house but would be better to wait until the kids are old enough to appreciate and remember the experience I think.

Do a Stingo and set up a website so we can all vicariously participate :)

Some very kind remarks by people - and some good ideas. Loads of encouragement for going sailing.

Negotiating to be a commission only basis with old company - which means that I get the commisison on my deals in the pipeline. So I mght be able to combine both!!!
