used this stuff to sort out the BMW after changing the Turbo, performance was rubbish and I was getting back pressure on downward gear changes for the first few K miles. Redex sorted it out impressively well, after the 2nd tank, the car was running as new.. happy days.

I know the injectors on Bizzy Bee could do with a clean.. is this treatment safe to use on a KAD32?

Cheers Gary

I would take them to Poole Diesel for proper testing. Redex would become heavilly diluted and I personally do no tbelieve in fuel additives, unless sorting a specific problem as an acute neasure.

What makes you think they need a clean ?

Tom, took them out when I purchased the boat over a year ago and they were well sooted / carboned, I've not checked them since so am thinking of checking them this year. That said the boat used to just pootle around the marine in Brighton when I bought her.. since then she's had some proper run outs and runs perfectly so maybe that's cleared the injectors?. this is what they looked like on the survey

I suggest Poole Diesel because when I took mine from my last boat's TMD40 they tested them for me for a few quid and they were just fine, although not as sooty as yours. I note the visible nozzle outlet holes are all clear, so if you pull one now you might find them nice and clean after some decent runs.

I reckon testing them is a 3-5 year maintenance task.

Poole Diesel are a real old fashioned firm, and likely won't answer the door at tea break, but worth the trip down there. They also made me a perfect copy injector pipe when I had one pierce through on a run to Weymouth a few years ago.

I would smother the sealing area and injector barrel just above in copper slip (not the nozzle itself) and with new or annealed sealing washers when re-installing. This is the only place in the boat I would use copper slip.

Not happy with number 3 at all. Is that coolant on there?

Oh and to the original question - big fan of Redex, motors run noticeably smoother with it in - mine do anyways.

Do check that your motor has them fitted, some volvo specifications have the washers deleted and the motor will lack power if they are fitted. If fitted, make sure you have the correct thickness too. Volvos give me the heebie jeebies when it comes to fuelling.

The copper sleeve is the seal, there must not be a washer fitted

If there was a product on the market that gave even 1/2% improvement on the performance of an engine I think the big commercial vehicle operators woudl be using it. As far as I am aware, they are not. Its all snake oil.

this isn't about performance though, it's about cleaning the injectors without removing them

Tis funny, my dad used to swear by Redex. He died almost 30 years ago and I've never used it, but my Beemer has been smoking a bit recently so I bought some and used it the same day you started this thread. The smoking has stopped. And it may be my imagination, but acceleration seems better.
I was pleasantly surprised.

the very same result. I'm not sure I'd continue to put it in the tank but as a means of clearing out the muck after a few tank fulls, it appears to do the job

not sure if it's coolant TK. Tom (Mercuryman) took the pictures and just said on his report that the injectors needed cleaning. I summised it's because the boat had pootled around Brighton marina all it's recent life and a good blast over to Soton' would do them the world of good.. the boat's run fine ever since so I've not looked at them again. However, it's service time so thought I'd pull them and give them a looksee again. That'll not be for a month or so. I'll post pictures of my findings in this thread when I do look at them. Actually, thinking about it, there's no need for me to wait for when the boat's on the hard, so I'll pull them when next on the boat

18 years ago I was having problems with my volvo 130s 1979 model, I worked out that I would need 3 gallons of Redex, When along came a product (that we don't name on here) only needed 500ml! boy what a difference it made, I have never looked back, and still use it today:encouragement:

TK Can you or maybe Volvopaul explain why VP engines require injectors to be pulled so frequently when other manufacturers using the same type of Bosch injectors go the life to overhaul of the engine??

Hi, I asked Tom to check the bores with his borescope thing-a-me-jig... I presume he'd need to pull them to follow though on that request
