Several years ago there were many garden benches sold ( B&Q £25?) They had heavy cast ends and quite well shaped slats. Ours was very comfy and is still soilid.
Many others suffered as the slats rotted. Our friend has one that 'her mum bought' (so its a sort of memento!) which I had the misfortune to sit on and break!
I searched for slats to effect a repair and it seems to be big business! ( this is on ebay under 'bench slats'.
I bought a set of Red Grandis which I know nothing of; is it any good? does it need treating?
There were lots of other timbers offered, oak, Iroko to name but two. Prices seemed good so I wondered if they could be a source for some marine applications.

I looked into this a few years ago as our village hall had an outside bench with crummy wooden slats. As I recall I favoured iroko but the project came to naught as the VH committee went and bought a posh new teak seat.
