Either 3/4 yd or 1 yd.
As it's for a present I think it's more important to go for the sewn version than the printed.
If you can afford the 1 yd then go for that but, if not go for the 3/4 yd.
Either will be appreciated. A sewn one will be appreciated all the more.

Right, before this thread degenerates into another flag etiquette! ;) A word of advice to the OP.

Check what fare is on offer as far as Sewn/Printed is concerned from the people you are buying from. I have seen sewn Nylon Ensigns which were GHASTLY compared to a Printed Ensign which actually looked very nice. If someone (mail order wise) is advertising a sewn ensign but not what it's made of, ALWAYS check first to avoid disappointment....

Thanks for the replies guys! Very helpful

I went for the 1 yard sewn in the end from a company I buy from alot (I work at a ship chandlery) so I know it'll be a good condition

Again thanks for help!

Do you leave it flying when you leave the boat...:eek::eek::eek::eek:

Have to. The boat is based in Croatia and the locals have a different view of flag etiquette to us. They insist on courtesy flag and ensign up on foreign boats even if leaving them for ages.

So both types of flags become consumables to be replaced as they become too embarrassingly ragged. The bigger nice ensign should last for a few years.
