Red Diesel & the RYA

Thanks for that - read thru the entire article believe it or not.

Some observations:
1. Only Belgium & Malta applied for FULL tax exemption. GB & NuLabour planned to [--word removed--] us over anyway.
2. Last line - in BOLD - the commision does not propose the authorisations requested.
The operative word here being PROPOSE. This should mean that it's not final yet - it's a PROPOSAL. What happened to "We will fight them on the beaches..."??

My reason for asking about Belgium & red diesel was that my Belgian contacts - who also follow this matter with keen interest - did not metion anything when we spoke yesterday.
So, my best guess is that HMG will just roll over and play dead, whilst Belgium - the country with the worst record for implementing EU legislation - will just ignore them.

Yes, the UK applied to maintain the status quo (ie, the reduced duty at 7p/litre we pay currently).

I believe the "propose" means they will not propose it for the vote, ergo the derogations lapse. Certainly everyone else is taking this to mean just that.

Surely by then it will be pink diesel in your tank, and in my visits to The Netherlands I have yet to find anyone in officialdom whose English isn't up to the mark when dealing with us when delivering yachts there.

Seems to me that the RYA did a good job in getting the Govt to apply for the derogation. After all, where is the economic justification for cheap diesel for leisure boats and not for road haulage?

And the government did their bit too. But in the end the derogation was a temporary permission not to apply the uniform rules that all other countries except us and Belgium already apply.

The real problem is the excessive UK level of tax on white diesel
