As that is what we will continue to buy. The only difference is that we will only have paid full duty on (say) 60% of it.

They may well expect you to be able to produce the relevant receipts showing tax paid on purchase. But I usually don't keep my fuel receipts as I cannot claim anything back on them. Prosecution would therefore require a presumption of guilt rather than innocence.

Unfortunately, there are precedents for such a presumption of guilt for some motoring offences already..
