a canal boater i know, told me that in france boats have two tanks, one for engine diesel and the other for heating fuel which is cheaper, reason for this and previous questiion ; have diesel heater on board. heavy on fuel. so may have to change to wood burner for economy.and sail more and motor less. thanks

You will continue to be entitled to run your boat heater on central heating fuel. Never of course, don't even think of considering a mis-fuelling where the central heating fuel got into the motive tank. This would be quite illegal.

Far be it from me to suggest that policing the difference between the tax rates inland would be entirely uneconomic. Inland craft in any case use comparatively little fuel over a season. Traces of red vegetable dye can hang around in a fuel system for a couple of years....

Bit of a pain carting 5 gallon cans around....
