I posted this on Scuttlebut and someone put a link on here to it, but this is the RYA document link direct as requested by those who don't venture often to the darkside pages! I have downloaded it and printed it off to keep on board should the need arise, it is in .pdf format.

The sting is, as ever, in the tail. As the onus of proof of duty payment remains with the purchaser ir remains quite possible for a zealous official to disbelieve you and any "receipt" he may allege you faked up using Word and a colour printer:-)

I think that takes paranoia to a new level! I stick copies of all receipts in the Log Book and already have a varied collection of them pre tax paid Red from purchases in several locations in the UK, Channel Islands and even White from France so on different paper, different sizes and letterheads. Receipts from now on will state 'fuel tax paid' because I will insist on that but I don't anticipate any problems with our friends over the Channel.

The sting is more likely to be non-acceptance of the 60-40, as set out in the other thread (Geoffs's post). This letter unfortunately does nothing to deal with that issue.

The sting is not the RYA letter or the 60/40 split. The letter clearly indicates to those of us whom carry the multi language docs that we are carrying RED diesel in our tanks, and in accordance with eec rules.
Stop worrying and enjoy boating....

Dear Robin,
Along with the risk assesment that you need to be seen to have carried out.
Certificates of ability.
It gets a bit OTT.

I am seeing little advantage to joining that European union thing.

Time for me to stop.

have a nice day.

kind regards,
Les.

I'm not "worrying", my boating is in France. Just making a point, actually agreeing with a point first made by Geoffs, which is that the RYA letter could have been worded better. Ho hum, no point in bashing their legal types again. I'm expect you'll be fine in practice though.

Wooooah! Get a Welsh tranaslation of the letter. Son Vida is translating it to Gaelic I bet, so you could do swopsies. I can translate to scouse if any use
