I already know the answer to this but just making sure. I recently filled up in France with Diesel, obviously white diesel. It is okay to mix red with white, as the boat has only had white diesle used in it (in France)???????

Yes it is OK to add untaxed marked diesel to white road diesel. This must only be used in your boat though.
Didn't you mix your red diesel in the tank with white purchased in France already?

Trevor

Red diesel is white diesel with a dye in it. The dye is used so customs officers can see if you use it in your car etc.. Farmers are always complaining of having their tanks checked at Country Shows etc..

You can use central heating oil as well, 28sec type. Sold as kerosene it is still diesel oil and there are hundreds of people using it on a regular basis. Add some "proper" diesel fuel occasionaly and you have trouble free service for years.

Our car is petrol!!!

I remember now you intended to bring the boat from Benodet France to North Wales.
Glad you made it, as I remember many were concerned about you doing this trip so early in the year.
Hope you had a good passage.

The passage was no problem, however still not got the boat to wales, in Falmouth at the moment, something came up so had to get back to work. Taking the boat around to Wales the first weekend of good weather.

I think many were concerned because they thought I had no experience!!!!!!

As with the red diesel question I knew the diesel is the same, but just wanted to put my mind to rest - when 2 engines are at stake wanted to be sure!!!!!!!

Some car dirvers have been prosecuted in the Welsh valleys recently because they were caught using old chip fat in their diesel engines. Why this should be illegal is a mystery to me, seems like a great way to save on fossil fules, but my guess is that the tax man was loosing out..

It is quite legal to run your car on old chip fat - but you still have to pay duty on it. I don't know what rate applies!
