Please excuse me if I'm slow here ....

I've read all the RYA / Govt releases recently, and realise that the cost of filling my 90 Gallon fuel tanks on my 37 Ft Yacht is about to increase considerably to around £400 (ooch!)

But when is all this going to happen?? I had heard it was effective from 1st Jan 2007 (and that is what has been implied by the Govt releases and the timings of all the recent announcements), but the RYA statement says ...

"The UK Government will consult with boating organisations to develop and implement a sensible timetable for transitional measures to alleviate the effects on the boater.

The RYA and BMF will continue to work closely with Government and their respective members to ensure that key issues of cost, availability and safety are addressed by the transitional measures."

Sensible?? Surely nothing about this is sensible?

Are they going to let marina's use up their current stocks of red juice before making them switch, or will there be a grace period to allow marina's to use up pre-contracted supplies of red which have yet to be delivered? What about some boat owners who pre-pay for fuel - will they be allowed to honour their payment against red or will they just get given half as much white as they were expecting? (Could be tempting to go and give the marina £500 for fuel as payment in advance if they will be allowed to honour pre-paid contracts before 1/1/07)

Any thoughts / advice - once again apologies if I've missed some vital piece of information and all this is much clearer than I've made out /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

I'd got that far!

On an unrelated note ... lovely looking Oyster in your photo album. We looked at one which is for sale in Port Solent at the moment (the first Cruiser/Racer one built (boat show model in 78 and then started the infamous 79 Fastnet)) - great looking boat expect she is a fast passage maker?

Thanks for your help on the red diesel note - slowly sifting my way through the search results hoping to find an answer!

p.s. - have got a bit of cold coming on so tissues at the ready would be great /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Why dont we all pack up and leave for the Med! we could annex part of Corsica (could be troublesome as they dont agree with breakaway groups Sardinia on the otherhand if occupied by enough from the Forum and Britain would allow us an independant port!!And enjoy the spending power generated

Sun wlam winters good food great location--the Germans have taken over Majorca??!!
And Sardina dose have high speed ADSL so all can continue their ecomomic pursuits

In sardina diesles 67 cents a liter!!Corsica 96cents

Found this (to help any others who have been trawling!) - comment from the Motor Boats Monthly Editor on Timing:

"What we don't know is when the new tax rate will come into effect. Banning motorboaters from using red diesel will require a change to our legislation, which obviously takes time. It is thought that we could not implement a change before March or April at the earliest."

This answers my question. Reason for asking: boat out of the water with tanks not full (I know not the best way to store it - but just in the process of buying it and thats how she is) - didn't know whether to start lugging jerry cans of red diesel from the fuel pontoon across the yard and up ladders to try and save some dosh? But as she should be in the water by March I think I'll risk it (and save my back in the process!)?!
