I have it on good authority that the Red Arrows are performing off Portishead as part of the 1st day events of the Portishead carnival
Kicks off at 18:30
Should have a good view when anchored off the point or Redcliffe Bay.

Being curious I looked for Redcliffe Bay on the Admiralty chart. I see that the area is marked with the no-anchoring symbol. Is this restriction or advice generally ignored?

Not knowing the water there I'd appreciate local comments.

The no-anchoring area off Redcliffe Bay is monitored by Bristol VTS's radar station at Walton Bay.

Having asked for help in The Lounge I'm now attempting to post a chart extract showing the no-anchoring area. Here goes...

Thanks for that, just SE of Nore Pointbshould put you in the right spot. Hope there'll be enough room!
Will we be allowed to anchor "underneath" the display?

Some years ago delivering a boat from Poole we were stuck in Weymouth for a couple of days. As my son and I had spent so much in the pubs there, the council put on a Red Arrows display to say thank-you as we left. We were able to sail directly under the display so I don't think there are any restriction on being under the display.
Last year on another delivery trip, we had a display at Swanage and one at, I think WSM or Minehead. I think they may be stalkers. This year I'm planning to sail to Newlyn on the 14th June, just to fool them.

I've been on boats at Bournemouth airshow with the show going on above us! A Eurofighter just above you makes hell of a lot of noise!! Should anything happen I wonder if the insurance would pay out?!

Not aware of any restrictions in place for the Portishead display.

Will we be allowed to anchor "underneath" the display?
