Err, just testing whether it worked or not. Actually a foolish, and fundamental error on my part. Tried to overreach from the dinghy to fasten its painter on the sheet cleat in a bit of a chop. Result, dinghy one way, yacht the other, me in between.

Interestingly saw another chap trying to get back on board his boat yesterday, without a lifejacket, having tied his dinghy to the mooring buoy. Nearly ended the same way but he managed to pull the dinghy back with his feet whilst hanging on to the stanchions.

Anyway I managed to hang on to the dinghy painter and grab hold of the stern boarding ladder as the current took me past, so all ended well.

Spent ones are simply scrap metal, but if you want to get rid of any complete but "out of date" ones give them to a pal with a CO2 air pistol, he may even let you play with it too.

Any in the midlands (near jcn14 on the M6) are welcome to come & use them up in some of my air pistol collection.
