Recommended torch

I’m happy to debate and pleased that you find interest within the thread. The OP torch does not have a wide beam, it’s misleading or disingenuous to suggest otherwise. Like many of us, I have a dozen or so £10-£20 small crew pocket torches - my second post confessed to my torch owning OCD. The OP torch is not a £15 pocket torch so forgive me if I fail to see the relevance.
To say that the OP torch would be “rather poor” on a boat is complete and utter nonsense. I think that any sensible debate has now drawn to a close. I’m very happy with my new purchase and it’s primary use will be underwater. It will also serve me well on my boat, that’s why I opened the thread to recommend it to others. We are all free to make our own choices. Fair winds.
I did not say that the Op's torch was a £ 15-00 torch. read what i said. I was indicating that smaller cheap torches can be better for close up work, As an example, easier to hold & less reflected light back off the object being viewed in the cockpit. ( Do have quite a lot of experience of night sailing) can be placed in thepocket & less liable to roll round, ending up (down) on the cockpit floor, being a danger to tread on in the dark.
I suggested that the beam from the Op's torch seemed wide- did you look at the video? This MAY catch the back of the cockpit bulkhead & light MAY spread all over the place rendering the torch of lesser value to the user. I certainly do not want the hassle of having to take the batteries out whenever I leave it, or to charge it. Any torch that does not meet the requirements of the individual user could be placed under the "poor" catagory. So In my opinion I was correct in my assertion.
We all have opinions & are quite at liberty to express them. It may be that others intending to buy a torch may read this post. If so the various points raised may save them wasting £ 70-00 on one person's say so. On the other hand they may feel it is just what they want
To each his own. But as I pointed out it was an interesting point to raise & the Op should not feel castigated for doing so.
