New member here, boatless and planning for future liveaboard 50 footer motor yacht on Florida's east coast. Looking for recommendations for small yet powerful air compressor (if yacht does not come with one already) that can handle inflating tender tubes, bicycle tires, etc. Maybe small enough for stow below deck to prevent it from growing legs and walking off.

Dinghy tubes are high volume and bike tyres are lower volume, higher pressure. We use a vacuum cleaner to inflate our dinghy and that works very well. Also useful for cleaning if you are living on the boat. It took a little searching to find a model with fittings for both suction side and air outlet.

We usually leave our dinghy inflated but the vacuum cleaner will inflate it in 2-3 minutes. Quite effective and fairly cheap. Runs on mains power, not 12V (unless you have a big inverter).

I could check the model we use but it probably wouldn't be available in USA. I haven't seen a pump that's equally suited to sponsons and bicycle tyres. Perhaps someone else has a suggestion.

Just spotted your spelling of "tires" and guess you are from US. You might be better off posting on an American cruising forum if you will be purchasing the pump in US.

The spelling a "Florida" is a bit of a giveaway too. ;)
It's been a long year. All the best for the new one.

Yes :D

I thought the OP might be re-locating from UK and wanted to take some smaller 12V bits & pieces out. We always seem to leave UK with at least 30kg of boat stuff in our hold luggage.

I've had a bad cold since before Christmas and still doped up so took a while to spot the telltale signs it was actually from an American.

Have a good new year.
