We're based in Woolverstone so looking for recommendations for local marine electronics specialists.

Used Mantsbrite 9 years ago who were excellent and will contact them but any others for comparison?

Our ancient masthead transducer has given up the ghost and it's the last bit reliant on a raymarine ITC5 which i intend to remove, rest of the kit is all NMEA2000 except for the i60 which I already have a replacement for (i70s). So any thoughts on masthead device, I know Raymarine does a smart wind, but apart from airmar (depth/temp/speed) I've not had experience of other manufacturers directly - any advice for both device and prospective installers?

This will connect straight to your N2K network https://www.autonnic.com/product-page/wind-sensor-nmea2000 Less than half the price of the Raymarine one!

Just to throw a spanner in the works, I have fitted the Raymarine Smart Wind .... and am gobsmacked. It replaced my old Raymarine unit and because it has a 3D motion sensor in it and therefore knows how fast and in which direction the top of the mast is moving, it compensates both wind speed and direction, also allowing for angle of heel and updraught from the sails. This is most noticeable in lighter winds with waves (or powerboat wash) ... the readout, and the autopilot when sailing to wind, just stay rock solid and don't swing around wildly like the old system. If this is important to you, it's worth the money IMO.

Thanks, that’s just the sort of insight I really like, it does read as a clever bit of kit, good to hear that first hand account

About average price for a 20m cable.
Cripes. Why is it so expensive?

NASA do a masthead unit which, if my understanding is correct, outputs NMEA 0183 and comes with 20m of cable and an 0183 to 2000 converter, available for less than £260 - Nasa NMEA2000 Compliant Mast Head Sensor and NMEA Translator Unit

Is this worth considering? Asking on behalf of a friend (ahem) whose B&G unit, or the cabling to it, appears to have failed whilst laid up for the winter. New thread on that coming shortly as it would be too much of a thread hijack here.

The cable itself is high quality 5 core, tinned and shielded. That would typically cost £120, with any connectors.

The NASA unit is the budget end of the market and the cable is nothing like the quality of proper N2K cable.
