Did icw six years ago with 60ft and 6ft, managed most of it apart from Georgia. Loads to see and v enjoyable. if you stay on the inside expect to add a lot of hours to your engine but also to find some beautiful spots , but hopping outside occaisionally is easy enough.
in NYC W79th street is a fantastic location and not expensive. its also worth taking the east river through to Long Island sound and exploring places like Mystic Seaport (as you have crossed an ocean they will let you stay overnight in the museum for free - its brilliant!) and Noank (personal favourite). One other poster mentioned Bermuda - thats also v cool, st georges is great harbour.
In terms of weather you might find a fair few thunderstorms around from nyc and south - pays to plan round them if you can....
One v important thing to remember is the Requirement to get a US. visa as you arent subject to the waiver scheme arriving by boat.
OR.....
Why not go to the bahamas and CUBA..... before its too late ;-)
