sorry to rehash this, but I really struggle to make sense of searching the threads.

HWMO has offered to buy me an oil lamp for use as anchor light. So looking for something that's good for outside in all weathers with a reservoir good for up to 10 hours.

Not silly money tho - under £100 please. Any suggestions?

The nay sayers will be along, but here is my 2p

Not Chinese.

Search for a genuine German Made Feuerhand, as used by the Wehrmacht for 70 years

Get him to order you a spare glasss and a spare length of wick, together with an aluminium screw-in topped container from decent outdoor camping stores.

Buy only the best lamp oil, and dont keep it full, as its hygroscopic, soaks in water when you ain't looking, and you get a sputtering, guttering flame that is easily extinguished.

All that should set you back around £50-60

Not a naysayer, but lamp oil is a waste of money in a lamp that is designed to burn paraffin/kerosene. Paraffin is not hygroscopic, and a good quality lamp wick will not wick water to the flame while there is still paraffin in the tank. (the experiment that proved that was done by the International Guild of Lamp Researchers several years ago and was published in their newsletter Light International).

You should store the lamp dry with the tank empty to avoid condensation because otherwise that will eventually lead to corrosion. Also paraffin does deteriorate over time.

Feuerhand lamps are certainly of excellent quality.

i have a copper one from Davey & Co

Do you really want an oil lamp for an anchor light?
An led anchor light seems to offer so much more

Call me a nay-sayer by all means, but I have a white anchor light with a daylight sensor, made for the marine job & low current, £10.95; and even with my wiring rather less likely to set fire to the boat ( actually followed a master's instructions as I'm cautious but not that bad m'self ).

I must agree with Moonfire, check this page out -

Googlize: Eccles Lamps (or similar) for lots of info. They are superb things, but they do need a tiny bit of modification to make them easy to live with. (PM me if you want more info) You should get a good working one for £30 ish.
They, of course, will not blow out. Nor will they cause your boat to explode if you fill it with propane - though that would be silly.

if you want a classical oil lamp, get a proper one with a fresnel lens. They sometimes come up on ebay and they are really good
