I am looking to replace my existing Raymarine Raystar 125 GPS antenna with a new modern standalone GPS antenna / receiver. Ideally a 48 channel, fast acquisition capability with NMEA0183 output and also NMEA 2000 (but the latter is not essential). Support for WASS, GLONASS etc would also be preferred.

Does anyone have any recommendations?

Many thanks in advance for any help

I may be mistaken, but i'm not aware of a simple GPS receiver that outputs NMEA 0183 and N2K. You will likely have to make a choice, depending on what you currently have in the way of plotters etc.

Other than that, there really isn't anything to choose between any of the big names. Just get what you can get the best deal on IMO.

The Airmar G2183 outputs NMEA0183 and NMEA2000 simultaneously, so has an element of future-proofing. Only 12 channel, but I'm not convinced that 48 channel gives any great benefit in a sailboat application. £129 here - http://www.jgtech.com/marine-gps.html

One i didn't know about, but have you seen the price of the cable Pete ?

Splitter COMBINATION NMEA0183&2000 15M CABLE KIT (junction box, M connectors, 6M device net) Part 33-632-01 For simulataneous 0183 and NMEA2000 outputs for Weather station and GPS and heading sensors.

£249.00 inc

NMEA2000 bits are pricey. But NMEA2000 was on the OP's wants list.

I would suggest the Evermore SA320 GPS, which is NMEA 0183 at less than £100.

If N2K GPS is required in the future, it would most likely be as a result of a plotter upgrade, which would usually include the GPS receiver (if it wasn't integrated). If not, a change of receiver or the fitting of an Actisense NGW-1 or the like would be cost effective.

Thanks for the feedback everyone, it is much appreciated. I have been on the evermore website, unfortunately some of their pages do not load. Has anyone purchased one here in the UK and if so would they recommend a supplier?

Thanks again
