Hi,

The question is (almost) as per the title : I am looking for personal recommendations for a surveyor who can also perform the services of a marine architect and minor works project manager.

I am already aware of the lists / search facilities at the IIMS and the YDSA but am specifically looking for personal recommendations for people who can carry out all three functions I mention above, ideally, but not solely, from people who have had more than a survey carried out (IYSWIM).

Many thanks,

Boo2

Ask for Nick and tell him Mike sent you (he will probably charge you double! )
Seriously he may well do what you are after at a reasonable cost and he is based in the area.

Talk to Jim Pritchard.

He has surveyed all my own private purchases and acted for me against an insurance company when I lost a boat in a Hurricane. He has also built many boats.

I'm a yacht broker but am recommending him on a personal basis.

Thanks for all the replies so far. I am initiating contact with several of them but I would also be keen to hear about people fitting the bill and who are nearer the Brighton end of that section of coast if anyone knows of any ?

Thanks again,

Go on then, tell us. What's this week's boat? So far all I know is that she has a keel stepped mast, needs significant work and you'd like to lift her by the chainplates ...

Hi Ubergeekian, the list of boats hasn't changed recently, I am currently considering :

5 Moody 31s
4 Colvic UFOs,
3 She 31s
2 Carter 33s
and an Elizabethan 33

OK, so I am not actively considering the Lizzie 33 ('cos of a bad osmosis job) and one of the C33s got cross when I tentatively named a lowball figure :p And the Moody 31s are entirely made up to fit the song :D But the rest are boats I've been considering for a while now.

But (hope I don't sound churlish) I really do need this thread to stay on topic as I have stuff to get on. Hopefully be a bit more explicit later when the deed is done...

John Cherry is the man for Moody. jc.yachtsurveys@ntlworld.com

Otherwise I second John Pritchard, Adrian White, Nick Vass.
Adrian White was very helpful to me before I had a survey done.

I didnt get on well with one other (not mentioned) who was the cheaper and actually did the survey, PM if you want to know his name.
