Having sailed down from Anglesey via east coast of Ireland, Scilly Isles we are hoping to leave Penzance for Roscoff for our first trip to France in Vivendi our 1973 SHE 32C on Thursday. (1.65m draft, cruising speed 5k)

I’m up to date on the Brexit paperwork required.; have all the pilot guides etc and really looking for recommendations for the top 3 places to visit given we have probably 10 days along the French coast before I have to crossback over the channel to a port my wife can get the train back home.

We don’t want to sail everyday; we like to find a place to anchor/moor up maybe marina every couple of days and enjoy food, music, culture and walks; so thinking of an itinerary with maybe three stops ?

Any recommendations, tips and advice gratefully received.

Cheers

Go into Trebeurden across the Baie of Morlaix, my kids favourite spot

ploumanach is lovely around the corner if your draft is ok

then on to trequier. Take the moisie passage into the Trieux and either anchor at Brehat if you can get in or carry on up to the marina at Lezardieu.
all fab!

We went from Roscoff and found ourselves a lovely quiet spot to anchor for a night or two somewhere up La Penze, just 'round the corner', as it were, from Roscoff. I can't remember seeing another boat while we were there.

We left via the Passe aux Muttons, and went and anchored at the Sept Iles, which was also nice. I'm not 100% certain we anchored overnight at the Sept Iles. I have a vague feeling that's forbidden, or maybe I'm confusing it with some other island group with nature protection and restricted anchoring.

I can't remember where we went next (various visits to that area blur into one another in my memory), but possibly either Treguier or straight back across to Salcombe.

Some good suggestions there. Heading East the marinas at Saint Quay-Portrieux and Saint Cast and Saint Malo have all tide access.

The Secret Anchorages of Brittany is a lovely book and has lots of ideas for you.
Roscoff, St Pol and I'le Batz are great. Fine marina as well.

Shame to miss the big rivers but don't get trapped in strong N winds. Can be a long slog out of Treguier with wind on the nose.

We’re just about to leave the area, on our way back to Jersey

highly recommend Perros Guirec and/or Ploumanach

just paid €40 for 3 nights this week in Perros, the scenery round there and ploumanach is awesome

ile Brehat is fabulous and we really really like Paimpol, though I think they are having a festival of sail imminently which limits visitor spaces.

had no problem getting into all the marinas we went to, finger pontoons, no rafting necessary

We overwintered in Paimpol and loved it. Would definitely recommend (x2 iIF you can get in during the Festival of Sail)

Thanks for all the suggestions, we safely arrived in Roscoff yesterday after a 23 hour sail from Penzance, just in time for this weekend’s Onions Festival ! We are going to stay the weekend and enjoy the old town and then move on East.

Bon Voyages

? My daughter’s English boyfriend was quite bemused at how excited she was about finding real Roscoff oignons in their local greengrocers in Camden.
