I'm looking to get a decent quality cutlass bearing but have heard that some aren't quite up to scratch and wear out pretty quickly.

MMP cutlass bearings seem ok and are reasonably priced but would appreciate advice for which to choose.

thanks
Frank

I use ASAP Supplies for cutlass bearings.

Been of good quality and reliable so far.

Our boat has a stern tube and removing the brass cased bearings has required a large press and several tons of force.

I ordered the relacement with a GRP casing.

Word is they come out with far less pressure.

I have knocked up a simple puller using my turned duralumin disc I used in the press, a length of 12mm studding, a length of 3 inch steel tube with an end plate and nut.

I should be able to remove the GRP bodied one with this if no press is available.
