Recommendation of shipyard and mechanic in/near Dubai for Sunseeker 74

Hi!

I've previously been asking some questions regarding the purchase of a motor boat in Dubai.

Now we're closer to making a decision. I've found a Sunseeker 74 which needs refurbishment/renovation both inside and outside. We're talking complete outdoor teak, furnitures, ceilings etc.

1) Anyone here who can recommend a person and/or shipyard - in Dubai or near - suitable to carry out such job at a reasonable price?

2) Anyone here who can recommend a person - in Dubai or near - with knowledge and experience in checking a ship like this? Hereby I mean electronics, hull, engines etc.

No but do bear in mind that this is a big boat and the bills will be large. It also suggests neglect.

Pay more for one where the prior owner has done the work.

I refurbished mine on purchase but did most of it myself. On a boat that size unless very cheap and you know the people doing it already I would look again

Hi! Thanks for your input - I do not disagree with your view on this. But the boat could maybe be cheap enough so that it makes sense and the refurbishment budget therefore large enough.

Appreciate your input anyway And this is exactly why I need someone with expertise in both electrical, mechanical and refurbishment to hire for this job.

I have lived 6 years in Dubai and still visit 4-5 times a year so my view on skilled labour is as follow.
It’s very rare in the region and because of the now more widespread poor employment conditions vs rising costs of living, the talented guys will leave sooner rather later.

So with that in mind, proceed with caution as this can easily turn into a nightmare.

You may well be familiar with the UAE so you will know that but there are many traps and frustrations when doing business there.

Otherwise I ll look forward to reading more as your project evolves.

I took the advice of MrB and took contact to Sunseeker ME. Had them out with me to take a look at the boat - very good and professional experience, so happy I did that.
They did a quotation on all the work to be done on the boat.

Just signed contract today and deposit paid - took the recommendation of Sunseeker ME as to getting my own surveyor flown in.
They recommended two guys, both from the UK. I took one of these (Matt Foulkes, Meranti Marine), and next step now is to get him here along with an engine mechanic.

Any tips? I'm still open for it!

Greetings from DIP, which marina did you opt for in the end? I’ve had some experience in sorting out issues that are a result of neglect on a similar boat, happy to help if required.

You are certainly taking the right precautions. I might be there later this month so happy to go and take pictures for you if you wish so.
However my schedule is very dynamic so I can offer to do the same each time I go rather than with a particular date in mind.
